Man To Face Court For Allegedly Stealing Thousands In Workers Comp Super Payments

Criminal charges are hanging over a man who allegedly pocketed thousands of dollars in fraudulent workers’ compensation and superannuation payments.

A 42-year-old Victorian man is facing eight charges, including three of obtaining financial advantage by deception and four that arise under the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act (WIRC Act) for providing false or misleading information.

The additional charge of providing false or misleading declarations is also a breach of the WIRC Act.

It will be alleged that the man received $251,000 in WorkCover payments between October 2021 and May 2025 while failing to declare he was employed during this period.

WorkSafe also alleged the worker submitted false certificates of capacity, falsely declaring he had not worked between October 2023 and April 2025.

The man will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 8 October.

Earlier this year, WorkSafe charged a woman for allegedly obtaining more than $400,000 in fraudulent workers’ compensation payments despite holding a job at the time.

The payments, credited into her bank and superannuation accounts, were received while the woman falsely represented her working hours and earnings between March 2021 and February 2025.

In May, Gary Janson was handed a restitution order and a community corrections order by the Melbourne Magistrates Court for operating a side business while pocketing thousands in injury compensation.

At the time, acting WorkSafe executive director of integrity, risk and resilience, Jane Barker, said: “Exploiting a system that supported you when you were unable to earn income is not only selfish – it’s a criminal offence that will be met with serious consequences.”
