Food delivery company Menulog is ceasing all operations in Australia by month’s end, with 120 employees set to lose their jobs.
Just Eat Takeaway.com, the global online on-demand delivery that owns Menulog, has made the “difficult decision” to cease its operations in Australia.
“While Menulog has a proud 20-year history, it has been navigating challenging circumstances,” the company said in a statement issued earlier today (Wednesday, 12 November).
“This strategic decision reflects our focus on accelerating growth and investments in other markets and to deliver the best experience for customers, partners, and couriers.”
Approximately 120 employees are set to be impacted by the closure, the company said.
“All impacted employees will be fully supported with generous redundancy packages above legal requirements and outplacement support,” it said.
As a result of the closure, Menulog will no longer accept orders from midnight, Wednesday, 26 November 2025.
The move is the latest announcement from a major corporation to unveil large-scale headcount reductions: earlier this month, Westpac announced it was axing 134 roles across 99 branches; in late October, UTS unveiled a proposal to axe 209 roles in the next phase of its cost-cutting plan; in mid-October, Nestlé announced plans to cut 16,000 jobs in the next two years; in the same month, Lufthansa said it would replace 4,000 staff with AI by 2030; in September, ANZ announced it would cut 3,500 jobs in the coming 12 months and NAB said it would cut more than 400 cuts in the same week; in the same month, Fiverr said it would cut 250 jobs to be an “AI-first company; and in July, Recruit Holdings (which owns Indeed and Glassdoor) said it would cut 1,300 roles, in the face of AI’s rise.
Dutch-based Just Eat Takeaway.com bought Menulog in 2020, after it was first bought by UK-based Just Eat in 2015. Menulog was founded in Sydney in 2006.
