DJing listed as the top career choice for Australians in 2025

A new report has revealed that young Aussies are keen to harness their musical prowess in 2025, with many inquiring how to become a DJ.

A recent international report by Remitly has revealed the top careers that people across the globe are most interested in as 2025 kicks off. By analysing global Google searches that accounted for over 415 different careers, the report was able to deduce which were the most sought-after.

The research – which carried on from a 2022 report – used Google searches from over 180 countries based on the term “how to be a [job]” to find out what roles people were most curious about heading into 2025. According to the data, the world’s leading job aspiration was to become a pilot, with around 432,000 annual searches.

In Australia, however, the most searched career role was a DJ, with Aussies wanting to create a career within the music industry. The global results, however, showed that the ambition to become an attorney was runner-up behind the role of a pilot, with the career choice of being a police officer following in third place.

The following are the top 10 most searched career roles based on Google searches:

“It’s fascinating to see such diverse careers featured among the world’s most searched dream jobs,” said Ryan Riley, VP of marketing for EMEA and APAC at Remitly.

“Compared to the data from 2022, we’re seeing a trend where the world’s dream jobs are becoming more corporate and focused on high salaries over other career goals, especially seen with the surge in legal professions.”

Although Riley expressed that the data is leaning towards more corporate-aligned interests, Australia was deemed an outlier, with DJing taking the top spot. Despite this, however, health-related careers across all countries, including Australia, are increasing in growth.

“The growing interest in health-related careers is particularly inspiring and could still be an impact of the pandemic causing people to seek out roles that serve their communities,” said Riley.

“For many, pursuing a dream career may mean moving abroad where there are more jobs available. If that is the goal, I highly recommend plenty of research and making a three-year plan before taking the leap. This will allow you to plan finances better, estimate career growth, and help to ease any nerves when moving abroad.”
