Employment Hero acquires Humi in $100m global expansion move

Yesterday (9 January 2025), Employment Hero acquired the Canadian employment platform Humi in a move that bolsters the company’s push for global expansion.

The Employment Hero-Humi deal is estimated to be worth more than $100 million – making it one of the largest recent deals in Canadian tech.

Employment Hero has deemed Canada as a key market for the company when it comes to its global expansion plans, as the new deal will combine Employment Hero’s Employment Operating System (eOS) with Humi’s understanding of the Canadian market, thus crafting a localised solution for businesses.

According to Employment Hero, the move will support the company’s continued global expansion, which currently serves over 2 million employees and 300,000 SMBs across the Asia-Pacific region and the UK.

Speaking on the upcoming partnership between the companies, Employment Hero chief executive and co-founder Ben Thompson praised Humi chief executive Kevin Kliman.

“Humi is an incredible business, and Canada is an exciting market. I’m thrilled to join forces with Kevin. He’s a passionate founder, and Humi’s success to date is testament to his commitment to Canadian businesses,” said Thompson.

Thousands of Humi SME customers will gain immediate access to Employment Hero’s platform due to the acquisition.

Employment Hero and Humi plan to double this number in the near future by attracting a large number of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Canada, which are over 1 million in total, striving towards their goal of becoming the leader of employment management solutions in the region.
