How Elmo Is Paving The Way For Easier Workdays

During its recently held virtual roadshow presentation, workforce platform ELMO identified capabilities that allow HR to reduce administration and focus on complex, impactful decision-making.

ELMO software chief sales officer Luke Allen explained how the Complete AI Workforce Platform addresses one of the biggest challenges of the modern hiring and personnel manager.

Noting that having everything in one place is only part of the problem, he said that a streamlined management capability “helps you manage your workforce day to day while also giving you the tools to plan for what comes next”.

“If you’re running HR for a few hundred people across a handful of sites, a lot of your week is probably taken up by admin. And by admin, I mean chasing an approval, fixing a roster or a schedule, entering the same information into another system that still doesn’t talk to the others,” Allen said.

In this way, he noted that ELMO’s capability in streamlining workflows across HR, payroll and workforce management keeps organisations running by ensuring what sits in the middle is “one source of truth, a unified employee data foundation” that is pulled from every relevant area.

Allen further explained that this means the data allows for easier and more targeted decision-making, especially via native AI that considers an organisation’s people, policies and processes to give contextual answers without compromising data privacy.

“ELMO helps you run the day-to-day and design the workforce you need tomorrow.”

As one of the key features of the platform, Insights is an analytics tool that generates visual charts to demonstrate workforce-related performance or queries.

ELMO solutions director Bree Roberts said: “You could ask, how many people do we have in each department, and how has that changed over time, and Insights turns that answer into a clear visual chart”.

“Our team is consistently improving the AI engine so that you can interpret your prompts into the data sets you need. Plus, the latest updates to the data assistant engine mean it can handle more complex questions too. It breaks down multi-part questions into smaller parts, works through them and brings the answers back together so you don't have to work out how to break the question down yourself”.

Roberts also mentioned career development as a newer capability built into the ELMO platform, explaining its ability to generate a capability framework using job data and role descriptions, which then allows managers to assess teams against the framework and identify development opportunities through AI analysis.

Further, employees are able to receive personal learning recommendations and have clearer conversations with managers on next steps.

“Rather than waiting for career conversations to happen around them, employees can assess their capabilities against their current role or a role they’d like to move into. AI gives them a clear report showing what they need to work towards in terms of meeting their career goals,” Roberts said.

“For managers, it provides better context for more meaningful career conversations and really supports that internal mobility.”

It was further noted that the platform also facilitates employee experience surveys by offering remote features to gather feedback and use the data to improve the worker experience.

ELMO chief technology officer Josh McKenzie said platform features are similarly focused on optimising workflows and surface insights, allowing for smarter and more informed decisions.

He said: “My team has been focusing on modernising the recruiter and admin experience to make day-to-day hiring easier to navigate so you can find and hire the right talent fast.”

“AI screening is a big part of that, with pilot customers reporting up to a 70 per cent reduction in manual resume review time. For those of you who get hundreds of applicants for a role, this is a real game changer. Our AI screening scores each candidate against your job ad and provides a summary and breakdown of skills and experience that gives you a clear view of how each candidate matches the role and who to focus your attention on.”

“And importantly, you still make the call on who to shortlist.”

Roberts said: “It also means managing reference checks, employee checks, validating industry certifications like working with children, and the right to work checks as well.”

McKenzie also highlighted a new piloted salary intelligence product that can support fairer, faster and better informed pay decisions.

According to McKenzie, the use of third-party salary mapping can still take a lot of time and work to piece data together to establish a salary, and in this way, ELMO’s ability to bring together the context of your business and the role in question, as well as the location, industry and publicly available market data and anonymised ELMO data, produces a salary range that is more relevant, contextual and explainable.

Looking to the future, McKenzie said ELMO is exploring further features including that of an intelligence assistant “that can turn plain language requests into real actions across the platform, from finding answers to completing tasks”.

“We’re working towards smarter workflows that respond to real events, apply the right rules, and keep moving with less manual coordination … this is still an area of active exploration rather than a finished feature, but it gives a good sense of the direction we’re heading.”
