Gen Z Uses Ai To Revolutionise Workplace Productivity

New research shows that AI is changing the way we work, and Gen Z employees play a key role.

Global workspace platform International Workplace Group (IWG) recently released a study that found how AI is changing the way companies work.

Using responses from over 2,000 professionals across the US and the UK, the study delved into how organisations use AI to assist in improving work arrangements.

The new kids on the block

IWG founder and CEO Mark Dixon recognised the rapid changes happening in the world of AI. IWG found that confidence in AI is significantly higher in Gen Z (33 per cent) than for Baby Boomers (6 per cent).

Nearly two-thirds (59 per cent) of Gen Z employees coach older colleagues on AI skills. IWG said: “Gen Z are playing the pivotal role of driving AI adoption and are coaching the older generations on AI best practice.”

It found that “two-thirds of C-suite leaders say younger staff’s AI skills have improved their department’s productivity” – adding that 82 per cent of senior directors said that new business opportunities were found through AI innovations introduced by younger colleagues.

“Younger generations are playing a pivotal role by sharing their digital skills with their colleagues, which enhances performance and uncovers new business opportunities,” Dixon said.

AI boosting hybrid productivity

Based on its findings: “78 per cent of workers report AI is saving them time, with an average of 55 minutes gained per day – the equivalent of a full extra day of productivity per week.”

“These significant AI-enabled productivity gains are helping to create more connected, agile teams ready for the future of work,” Dixon said.

The study also concluded that 69 per cent of hybrid workers report that AI makes remote collaboration with colleagues easier.

The report found ways in which AI improved workflow through: meeting preparation, access to shared insights, more effective follow-ups, and streamlining teamwork.

Additionally, 40 per cent reported more free time for team building and communication thanks to the use of AI to automate routine work.

These technologies have allowed hybrid professionals to focus on strategic thinking, learning and development, face-to-face collaboration, and networking during in-office days, with 64 per cent reporting that AI made hybrid working “smoother and more effective”.

“Advances in technology, particularly in AI are boosting productivity … and connecting different generations of expertise,” Dixon said.
