In a statement today (9 February), the Fair Work Commission (FWC) confirmed its new president would be Adam Hatcher SC. His role will officially commence on 19 February 2023.

Mr Hatcher has been acting president of the FWC for the last three months following the retirement of Justice Iain Ross AO late last year. Before this, he served as vice president of the FWC – a position he was appointed to in 2013.

Mr Hatcher was admitted to the bar in 1997 and was appointed senior counsel in 2010.

Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Tony Burke said Mr Hatcher’s extensive experience makes him the ideal candidate for the role.

“He brings extensive experience to the role, and I am confident he will continue to execute his duties with impartiality and diligence,” Mr Burke said.

“The government is committed to a fair, just, transparent and balanced commission.

“Its work will be more important than ever as we progress ambitious workplace relations reforms to lift wages, improve job security and close the loopholes that are undermining pay and conditions.”

Mr Burke also used the opportunity to thank Justice Ross for his leadership of the FWC during his time as president.

“I once again thank Justice Iain Ross for his leadership of the FWC [for] over a decade,” he said.
