Editorial byline guidelines for HR Leader

Thank you for your interest in submitting an editorial byline to HR Leader.

To ensure a high quality of content, we kindly ask that you adhere to the following.

Word length

Bylines should be around 600 words, no less than 500 words and no more than 1,000 words.

Original

We require 100% original copy and a unique angle for HR Leader.

Please do not submit content that has been published elsewhere by the author (or anyone else), be it on their own channels or a third party’s channels.

Please do not send us byline angles or copy that has been pitched in elsewhere unless you have confirmation it isn’t being published elsewhere (in part or in entirety).

Point of view

Please write bylines from the point of view of your byline author (in first person). Your author will have their name featured at the top of the article and one line will be included at the end with their name, job title and company. A link to the company webpage is permitted embedded behind the company name. For example:

Jack Campbell is the editor of HR Leader.

Facts and figures

All facts and figures must be referenced for editorial integrity. Where references aren’t provided, and the information is not common knowledge or easy to find, those facts and figures will be removed from the published byline.

Format

Please send all bylines in a Word doc. This enables us to come back to you using Track Changes if any edits have been made to the final copy (we will do this at the time we publish the article - we will not come back prior to publication for approval on amends).

Author headshot

Please submit all bylines with a high-res headshot of the author which will be used with the article and kept on file for future use. Headshots in landscape format are ideal.

Style tips

  • Australian English
  • Sentence case for headings and bold
  • Double quote marks for quotes
  • Per cent, not percent or %
  • Avoid starting a sentence with numerals
  • Publication names, government acts (where being spelt out in full, e.g. Fair Work Act 2009), report titles, film/television series titles etc. to be italicised

Thank you again for your interest in working with HR Leader.

Our bylines are an integral part of the great content we offer the HR and people leadership community.
